How to Find Your Venus Sign (and What It Means)

Venus runs your love life, and most people have never checked theirs. Three ways to find your Venus sign, fastest first, and what to read once you have it.

Your Sun sign answers "who are you." Your Venus sign answers the questions that decide your love life: what attracts you, how you show affection, what you need to feel chosen. Most people have never checked theirs. This guide gives you three ways to find it, fastest first.

Method 1: Use a Venus sign calculator

Venus is never more than two signs away from your Sun, but which two depends entirely on your birth date. The fastest way to find yours is a calculator that computes Venus's actual position in the sky on the day you were born. Ours does exactly that, from one date field:

Enter your birth date, get your Venus sign with the degree, calculated from the planet's real position.

Method 2: Pull your full birth chart

Any birth chart generator will list Venus alongside your other placements. This route takes longer but gives you everything at once: Moon, Mercury, Mars, rising sign. Worth doing eventually, because Venus reads differently depending on the chart around it. A Venus in Cancer behind a Capricorn Sun loves very differently from the same Venus behind a Pisces Sun.

Method 3: Venus sign tables, and why they fail people

Old astrology books and many websites publish year-by-year tables of Venus's sign changes. They work for most birthdays and quietly fail on the rest. Venus changes signs roughly every 23 to 60 days, and if you were born within a day or two of a switch, a table rounded to dates can put you in the wrong sign entirely. This is the cusp problem, and it is why a calculated position beats a lookup table. Our calculator flags you if your Venus sits within striking distance of a sign boundary, so you know to double-check with your exact birth time.

You found it. Now what?

The sign itself is just a label until you read what it does. Start with our plain-language guide to what your Venus sign means, it explains why Venus, not your Sun sign, runs your love life, then jump to your sign's own page. Each one covers how you flirt, what you need, who wears you out, and who feels like home. All twelve are linked from the Venus guide.

Common surprises

  • Your Venus is not your Sun sign. For most people they differ, which is why "I'm a Leo but I don't love like one" is so common. You probably love like your Venus.
  • Two people, same Sun sign, different Venus. This is why two Scorpios can be unrecognizable from each other in relationships.
  • Venus retrograde at birth. Roughly 7 percent of people are born with Venus retrograde. It does not break your chart; it tends to mean your relationship to love matures later and more deliberately.

FAQ

Do I need my birth time to find my Venus sign?

Usually not. Venus moves about a degree per day, so a date is enough for most birthdays. The exception is being born on the day Venus changed signs, then the hour decides which side you land on.

Can my Venus sign change?

No. It is fixed by the sky at your birth. Transits move over it, but your natal Venus stays.

What matters more, Venus or Sun sign, in relationships?

Venus. The Sun is identity; Venus is attraction, affection, and attachment, the machinery relationships actually run on.
