What the vertex is

The vertex is a calculated point where the prime vertical crosses the ecliptic in the western half of your chart. Astrologers call it the point of fated encounters: the meetings, usually with people, that feel arranged. It activates by transit and especially in synastry, when someone's Sun, Venus, or Mars lands on your vertex, the relationship tends to feel inevitable.

Vertex vs North Node

Both get called \u201cfate points,\u201d but they work differently: your North Node is a direction you grow toward over a lifetime, while the vertex is an event trigger, it describes what arrives, not where you are going. Check both against a partner's chart in synastry.
